I've had prawns in a freezer, but they were bought frozen. But I can't say if freezing is applicable to all prawns. But I'd have thought so.

As long as they don't say "previously frozen", I think.

I just wonder if they need to be taken out of the water first? Prawn lolly anyone ?
why do you need to? If they are the ones I buy, they have a long fridge life.
What do you mean by "containers" ? are they in a tin? plastic bag? glass jar?

they're in a plastic container & I wondered about the freezing because I freeze plain prawns in their shell or peeled ones but i've not had the ones in liquid before. They are in a container similar to the hummus/coleslaw containers where you have to break a tiny seal to open the lid.

thanks again Abers

i'd drain them first if you do decide to freeze any.
what's the use by date?
By rights it should say on the front 'suitable for home freezing' - if it doesn't, I think you can safely say they've already been frozen, and the brine on them is thawed liquid
Question Author
use by date is 17th - today
It hurts the texture some to refreeze them but the important thing is to freeze them quickly(as in as cold as you can get your freezer). Otherwise boil what you don't use today for cocktail and freeze.
Question Author
ways to use them up is going to be - some for work
prawn cocktail and prawn curry later this week & i'm freezing the rest.

Thanks guys

Goodness, how big was the pot?
Especially if it is the size of a coleslaw pot!!!!!

I bought a few of them!!!!
I know the ones you mean, we can get them in Aldi. Use some of them in a fish pie, then you can refreeze them.
