If Pakistan can't handle the terrorists within its own borders you can't blame the US for taking matters into their own hands. What a lawless country!
NATO have a mandate to operate in Afghanistan, but do not have one for any neighbouring countries.

If anyone makes any incursion into any other country without a UN resolution or an invite to do so, they are acting illegally, they are invading another countries souvreignty and they are disrespecting an ally.

Pakistan have a right to be annoyed. They might get $billions in aid, but that does not mean we can ignore all normal relations and invade another country if we feel like it.

And such disreguard is very counter productive. Every Pakistani is going to be annoyed at such a violation of its territory. Any proud country will not be happy if even an ally or friendly country takes it for granted and carries out operations without its permission.

Read the question, this is about NATO not the US.
Gromit - “... they [the USA] are disrespecting an ally...”

Would a trustworthy ally allow the world's most wanted man to take up residence in their country? Are you suggesting that the Pakistan Government were completely unaware of the presence of Bin Laden in their country?

It is clear from the action taken, that the USA don't trust the current Pakistan Government at all. And quite frankly, who can blame them?

If your average Pakistani feels aggrieved that the USA has violated Pakistan territory or carried out operations without the permission of the Pakistani authorities, then they need to ask themselves a few hard questions.

Why did the USA not share their intel. with Pakistan? Is it because, if they had, Bin Laden might possibly have been informed of the operation and moved? I think so. And so did the USA.

If the Pakistan man-in-the-street is going to be angry at the USA's actions, he should be asking - how could the world's most wanted man be in residence in Pakistan without the knowledge and/or permission of the Government? Are the Pakistani authorities completely inept or are they sympathetic to Bin Laden and his ideology?

I really doubt that the Taliban have much of an air force so I'd think whoever shot at them knew who it was. There's not a line out there in the hills so its anyone's guess where the border actually is. No matter where it was at firing on an ally is bad for business. There are military channels for this sort of thing without shooting at anyone.
This is the old problem of the police, the military and all authorities, they are restricted
by their borders. Whether you are dealing with counties ,states or countries criminals
are safe as soon as they are over the border unless the neighbouring authority is co-operative. In the case of Pakistan there is little co-operation and a great deal of corruption. Therefore what choice is left.
AlL military aircraft have GPS sataite positioning, so they know within a few inches where they are in relation to any Borders.

There is a great deal of cooperation between Pakistan and the forces in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, illegal incursions into their territory alienates many civilian and governmental Pakistanis.

Bit like the Russians poisoning it's enemies in London, then expecting the UK to help them fight terrorism. That won't happen because Russia acted illegally, so we mistrust them.
Except of course Gromit it was the US actions that caused the NATO attack so it is valid to bring it up.

Why dont you want to answer the question I wonder?
Men are territorial and, in general, men run the world - a bad combination.

I am not a bra-burning feminist - just a realist.

I thought I had, but I will simplify it for you.

Why Can't We All Just Get Along? - because both sides are not playing by the normal rules which then breeds mistrust.
