Panasonic DMR-EX773EB (has HDD and DVD), Sony Bravia KDL26 40xx

Got a USA TV series DVD from Amazon UK, who assured me it will play in UK.

The above DVD and TV system will not start the DVD. Error message says TV is not setup to play DVD. I tried it in an old DVD and TV and it plays fine. The above system also plays and records UK DVDs with no problems.

Before I try to get help from someone at Amazon or Panasonic or Sony, I thought I would ask if any of you have any ideas.

The old DVD and small TV are setup in the Dining Room – it's only used when I’m cooking or want to watch the news while eating. The Panasonic is setup in the living room

Thanks for any advice – One thing I don’t want to even consider is to go through a special setup each time I want to play the DVD.

Have you tried other (UK) DVD?
How is it connected to the TV? HDMI? Scart?
What exactly are you PHYSICALLY trying to play the DVD in? The Panasonic?
It may well NOT play Region 1 discs (USA region) without a region-free mod.
If its a Region 2 DVD, you can always make it a multi-region player by unlocking it. I did this with mine, and once it's done, its permanent. Here is a link to a site:

Sorry, gave you the wrong link (doh). Here it is:

Thanks everybody for the advice.

I think my safest option will be to contact Amazon UK who sold it to me with the assurance 'it will run on UK DVD machines" And go from there.
