Five years for a guy that's almost dead. At least the Israelis didn't kill him.

waste of a Bullet - looks as if he is almost dead. A massive electric shock may have just spark some more life into him.
Excellent news.
Didn't he dodge justice for many years because the USA wouldn't extradite him to a communist country?

I don't know about any other countries wanting him. We have a criminal appeals process that can last quite a while. I think its a waste of money to even bother the old man. What is it going to prove? No witnesses and only one shred of physical evidence backed by a government known for doing exactly this.

I have read this is the last Nazi war criminal trial that will take place, due to the lenghty passage of time.Personally i think it can never be a waste of time or money to bring to justice people who have committed or participated in such terrible crimes against humanity.

So you don't mind convicting people based on suspicious evidence and no right to face your accuser? How many men got convicted out of revenge and how many out of justice? He was sentenced to hang, but it was overturned because of a technicality (it wasn't him). I'd say the chances of a fair trial in Israel for someone brought to trial for Holocaust related war crimes would be nil.
But... the Israeli's did exonerate Demjanjuk... "Demjanjuk had been exonerated in a separate Holocaust trial two decades ago in Israel, where he was initially sentenced to death for being the notorious “Ivan the Terrible” camp guard at Treblinka in Poland. The ruling was overturned by Israel’s supreme court after new evidence exonerated him". Source: World Watch News...
Had the Israelis wanted to kill him, it would have been a piece of cake... However long a national memory Israel has for the millions of Jews slaughtered before and during WWII, their court system does provide adequate protections...
Cowtipper - sorry to butt in .

I have resisted asking , thus far - I'm a bit intrigued by your username .

What's the story behind it ?

All the good names were taken. I looked out the window contemplating a new username (the first four I tried were gone) and saw the cows. I immediately thought of cow tipping, so I am named.
Right Ho , I was anticipating a good story there :-)

What about the ' tipping ' bit ?
Question Author
Cowtipping is like snipe hunting.

There are a couple of replies here where I talk about it:
