I think it was The Flying Scotsman
Mallard wasn't built until the 1930s
Don't know the answer to your question but it does seem that mallard was green some of the time

Are you sure of the dates here? There was a very famous steam train called Mallard, but that was built in 1938.

Are you saying that there was a film released in 1929 which featured a locomotive?
