Nerve damage is one cause. Have you had any injury or surgery in that area?
For how long has this been going on?
Are you on any medication?
Any relevant past or present medical history?
How old are you?

No, no surgery or injury, and I'm not on any medication. I'm 42, and fairly healthy - no past ailments. It just feels slightly numb on the left flank, below and to the side of the ribs.
Nothing comes to mind..........certainly nothing life threatening.

Just monitor the situation for a few weeks.

What an odd sign for someone to elicit..........numbness under the ribs.
What type of work do you do badhorsey ?

Thanks all. I could be my imagination but it feels perhaps a bit swollen on that side too, although that could just be a byproduct of the numbness. It's been going on for a few days now. I've made an appointment with my GP anyway.
