Tactical voting is widely seen as an unfair misuse of the voting system.

AV is based on tactical voting.

How can it be fair?

Who sees it as unfair? A tactical vote to try and keep a particular candidate out is as valid as any other.

The idea of an election is to vote for the candidate or party you want.

Where backroom deals are done, so that a party doesn't put up a candidate, and/or encourages voters to vote for a different party, I don't see that as clean politics.

AV will result in backroom politics.
