(sic) what does it mean?

what does (sic) mean. I see it a lot in articles after a quotation from someone. it's usually in square brackets but I don't know how to do them on my laptop!

It means 'As written' (well, there is a proper name for it but can't remember what it is!) so if a spelling mistake has been made in say a letter to a newspaper the editor won't correct it and instead put [sic] after the mispelt word.
thus. If somebody wrote something and spelt a word wrong and then it was being reported thus in brackets shows the error.
It is Latin for "thus". It is used when a mistake appears to show that this is exactly what the person quoted said or wrote, and is not an error on the part of the author.
It shows where an exact quote is correct but doesn't use proper grammar because its abridged or out of context.
