Sounds about right.
depends what work he did....? Doesn't sound too extortionate for gas work.
Yup....that's about right.

a new heat exchanger installed that cost 240.00
Oh - you mean £120 just for labour, not including parts (sorry, didn't read it properly the first time). In that case, £120 an hour does sound a bit steep.
all gas fitters are robbing Lady Veggies.
£120 an hour ! Bloody hell
For about £240 per year you could have a complete servicing and maintenance of your gas and electricity supplies - try someone like AA Insurance
I used to work for a plumber/heating engineer....the prices amazed me. Some of them charge by the hour....which means 5 mins into the hour and you're charged for the whole hour....

My boss was nice though....OAP's, single parents, disabled....got any work done really cheap....
Was that all an hourly rate, or was it something like £50 call out charge and £70 hourly rate.

It does seem really steep!
Posts like this make me glad I have British Gas cover for parts and labor....and cold water cover also ....
Funnily enough I was just on to BG about their service like the one Harry mentions as the warranty on my boiler runs out in a few months, they charge £17 per month and for this you get 24 hour cover, up to 3 freecall outs, parts and labour per year and a yearly service of your boiler, so you'd get most of your money back with the cost of the yearly sevice at the prices certified gas fitters charge these days plus peace of mind knowing you're likely to find your self with a large unexpected bill
That should have read NOT likely

Harry-Wragg
does that include replacing parts or just a servicing
not sure maintenance would cover replacing parts
Question Author
harry i just looked on the small print on the AA web site parts are only covered to £10 anymore and you have to cough up
Our heating went off a few weeks back called the boiler repair people, man came looked at it, topped it up with some water - - - £60 he was here 7 mins. We queeried it with H O they said charge was £60 per hour or any part of an hour.
So perhaps your man was there 1 hour 7 mins. so therefore £120. Jack.
