Well there is no law against it.

I get more worried if they want to take an impression of my credit card "in case you spend anything", blow that.
well you must have handed it over for them to do!
I really can't see what the problem is? So they have a photocopy of your drivers licence, so what?

And, do you really think there would be a law stating that you can't take a copy of a drivers licence?

Never having stayed in a hotel I am a bit puzzled as to why the even need I.D. at all.
It isn't illegal, but they have to adhere to the Data Protection Laws.
They need your id in case you cause a great deal of damage, steal anything from the hotel, die in the hotel room, get ill on the premises, run up a massive bill and do a runner....
Quite common actually in all sorts of places now. I can't think why it should be illegal.
You've never stayed in a hotel daffy?? Wow.
No Chrissa, I have never wanted to either. I haven't had a holiday for about 15 years now and that was self catering.
Each to their own daffy. I haven't had one since 2002. I sometimes think holidays are overrated. Life is madness preparing to go on one and then mayhem when you come back, getting back to normal.
