We have had a large Aloe Vera plant for many years now and do not want to lose it.
The size and weight has caused it to topple over and break its container, we would need a large broad based pot to contain it. Does anyone know if the top can be cut and repotted, or is that asking too much ?

Im sure they can, they are pretty tough things.
I have seen many with some of their leaves cut as the sap is (supposed to be) medicinal. As with many perennial plants, as long as the roots are kept alive/healthy you won't go far wrong.
I think you can safely just cut a leaf off plant it and it will grow in the right conditions.
