Every one knows that the longest palindrome in this language is the word "redivider", but did you know that words that spell another word backwards are called anadromes? What is the longest one in the English Language? There are some examples below:

Lager regal
asset tessa
devil lived
god dog
stop pots

Can any of you other clever ABers think of any more?

That is a palindrome though Mark.
Yes I know. I was merely pointing out that it's the same length as redivider...

Thanks for the speedy answers, folks, as had not heard of the first one. I did say anadromes, not palindromes. Will start a thread for palidromes tomorrow, unless someone wants to start one tonight.
It has already been done Jonny.

Sorry, did not know that, squarebear. Can you post us the link on this thread then? We would not want any repetition here, would we?
Another eight-letter one is dioramas / samaroid.

I've always seen them referred to as semordnilaps, but Wiktionary gives both words.
This might be slightly cheating, but whenever this kind of question pops up I always remember this from school days. BUT you don't read it backwards, but upside down!. "Just to remind the class, there is no swimming lesson next week" - (here goes) NOW NO SWIMS ON MON

Very clever, 888. I think you will find that is called an ambigram. This features in either the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons; I can not recall which.
