My MiL uses a walker and pretty soon will be wheel chair bound. She does not own her own car.

When we go up to visit we take her out in our own car, but we are finding it difficult as we cannot park in a disabled space.

Are we able to apply for a disabled badge only for use when we take my mother in law out.

Your MIL can apply for her own badge
Question Author
Ok, even though she does not own her own car?

How would it work?
and use it in any vehicle
Question Author
how would she apply for a badge?

Thank you
via her local council
I used to know a couple who were in the same situation. The wife was disabled but the husband was not, and they had a badge in their car. The husband was the driver and it was all quite above board.
She doesn't need to own a car to apply for one.

You have to ring your county council office to ask them to send the application form
The badge is issued to the person with the disability and not to the car per say... it can be used in any vehicle as long as your mil is in the car !!! It also lets you have free parking in lots of places...check the car park notoce first though... you can also park on double yellows as long as you are not causing an obstruction or danger to other road users...you CANNOT park where the pavement is marked with vertical double yellows..this is a loading area....
If she has a free bus pass, she may be asked to surrender this.
that isn't true!
den53 in agreement with bedknobs she will NOT have to surrender her free travel pass.Ron.
Bedknobs is right. I have a blue badge and a bus pass and I do not own a car.
my mother had both pass and blue badge, and she used the badge with whichever of her children were taking her out that day.
The blue badge is issued to the disabled person, and does not have to be used with a specific car...
The only time it is car specific ... is when it is used to avoid the congestion charge.
