Flashing lights on router

I have a Speedtouch router for my broadband which is linked to my laptop via ethernet and a USB connector as my internet port doesn't work (laptop not in good condition).

The Ethernet and Internet lights flash on and off while the internet is being used and I'm getting a lot of missed connections to websites. All the other lights just stay constant.

It seemed to start after I had downloaded a torrent downloader. It wasn't being used and I have removed it via Add and Remove and rebooted but the lights are still flashing.

Had a look in processes but no idea what most of them actually do as to whether anything is still running in there.

Anyone any idea what I can do to sort it (save buy a new laptop - that's a work in progress!).

Do a Scan with Malwarebytes just incase you have a Virus on your PC

Thank you :) Scan done and it's currently quarantining and removing so fingers crossed it sorts it.

Wil report back when it's done.

I've done a number of scans and removed all crap but still no joy, thanks for the suggestion though, much appreciated.
It's linked by ethernet and USB?

Use one or the other, not both, that's asking for trouble.... and it's normal on most routers for the lights to flash while data is going through them.
mine flashes all the time too - think that is normal.

Hello :)

Erm, the port on my laptop that the cable between the laptop and router would go in doesn't work anymore so a friend gave me a connector thing so I think it's a USB port connected by cable into a Link Act devise which has an ethernet connector to connect the ethernet cable to the ADSL thingy to connect it to the phoneline,

Does that make sense?

I can't remember it flashing like that before (not so often anyway) and it seemed to start when I downloaded the torrent viewer, I assume because of the downloading status - it did it even when not downloading but figured it just maybe stayed active somehow.

I did get a virus (as per previous sexy vampire incident) but did a system restore and have done security scans to remove any crap (adware, malware etc...).

Hopefully the flashing is ok then :)

Wondered it if was an indication my internet signal was flakey as I'm getting a lot of failures to load but usually when I reclick it works so figured it was maybe just getting interrupted somehow.

Speaking of which, I currently have a cat perched on the router so about to cause a disturbance on my own!
You've lost me Jenna ...
What with all that Sexy Vampire stuff and cats on your routers, etc
Question Author
Sorry Albags :) Sexy vampire stuff was an illadvised download which resulted in a virus on my laptop.

Cat on router was more of a random comment in that the cat was sat on my router at the time - it's right next to my laptop on the table. I think she likes the warmth, keeps her bum warm...sigh!
lol OK : )
