Does anyone know how the Amish produce books, writing, paintings etc ?

Not necesarilly the Amish, but any community that does not BUY paper. Producing it yourself seems a complex business, but if it is easier than I am making it sound please let me know.

I think the Amish are perfectly happy to integrate as far as they need to with wider society in order to procure necessities which they cannot produce for themselves.

That probably applies to other 'closed' groups who choose to live a different lifestyle outside modern culture.
I may be wrong but I believe that the Amish would buy paper. They buy books, after all, and certainly their home schooling children use ordinary notebooks (according to the programme on a few weeks back).
