Hi

I asked for some advice on here a few days ago as i was due in court yesterday charged with GBH Section 18.

Thanks to those that answered my questions,

I took the advice and accepted a plea for a lesser charge, i was hoping for abh, however they would only go down to gbh section 20.

The prosecution have accepted that i caused the injury without intent and that the injuries were only superficial.

For a first time offence and bearing in mind the 'victim' has said in a statement they dont want me to go to jail. Does anyone have an idea of what i can expect to receive?

Is section 20 something you would usually do time for?

Thanks for any replies in advance

you may possibly get a suspended ...and wrap very hard on the knuckles
I am also being tried for a section 20, from what i've read you will receive a large fine plus court fees and maybe some community service if you don't do time.
Anyone any thoughts on my case please? "Section 20 with 1 witness"
I posted this link before and it's still relevant:
http://www.sentencing...person_accessible.pdf

Refer to the table on page 15 but remember that the sentences shown there refer to a first-time offender convicted after a trial. A guilty plea can see a reduction in the sentence (of up to one third in the case of a custodial sentence). With a bit of luck you'll get a community order but it's still possible that a short prison sentence (of, say, 4 months) might be passed, with only half of the nominal sentence actually being spent 'inside'.

thanks for your replies
Hi..section 18 carries a life sentence as it is gbh with the intention to harm the person involved.section 20 is without intent and carries a 5year prison sentence.my friend has recently been charged with section 20 and got 8months,will serve 4.it depends on the case and evidence, also whether you have any previous too.all cases are different but 5years is the maximum.good luck
