LUMP ON THUMB JOINT

Yesterday I washed my hands and noticed a lump on the outside of my thumb joint. It just seemed to have appeared from nowhere.

It looks like a blister from a distance but feels hard because it is on the joint. It is oval in shape and quite elongated extending two-thirds of the way up to the nail. The skin is very rough over it and feels very thick, and when touched or washed it has a yellowish almost shiny tinge to it.

It is totally painless.

Anyone experienced anything similar/have any ideas please?

Definitely not soft and squidgy, but not totally hard and boney.

Enjoy lunch and club.

Many thanks.
Ok....it´s no big deal....see your GP at your leisure.
my daughter had something similar appear on her finger joint. We were quite worried as it really did appear overnight!
Anyway, turned out to be a ganglion. No treatment and now its almost gone. x
Google Digital Mixoid Cysts. They aren't soft and squidgy, but not as hard as bone and look just like you describe. They are often found near an arthritic joint. I had one for years. Then almost overnight it disappeared. I was going to have it surgically removed because I kept catching it on things, but it disappeared the week before my hospital appointment!!
They do have a thick rough skin over them and you say when touched they have a yellowish shiny tinge. (Almost like a blister that you could burst, except they are quite hard). Don't fiddle with it. I did and mine got infected!!
Could be just a fat deposit or something more serious. Just go to a doctor and find out. My mother used to have this on the joint of another finger and she could not stretch her finger. She had surgery and now it's fine.

Thanks everyone.

It does look along those lines LL, not so round and angry looking - more like a an egg-shaped wart but the size of about 4 warts. I'll get it checked out at some point but doesn't look like there is any need for urgency or panic.
Mine wasn't angry looking Barney, except when I caught it on things and it got infected. I wouldn't think it is serious, but do get it checked out! Good luck.
