Recently bought a new netbook that came with Norton installed. First thing I noticed was how slow the PC was. I uninstalled Norton & installed Avast instead, and was amazed at how much quicker the computer is now. I was just curious as to whether or not others keep Norton installed & whether they notice run speeds being compromised?

Norton products are the first thing I uninstall from every computer I've had since 2001.

Norton products tend to run your machine how they want, not how you want.

IMO, you did the right thing.
I run Norton Internet Security 2011 on my system. It does not reduce speed to any noticeable degree.
Uninstall and get AVGFREE.
The later versions of Norton (from about 2009 onwards) are very good and have scored highly in all recent independent tests (Norton still has a bad name in some peoples eyes because older versions were dire, but it's really improved over the last few years.)
I have Norton 2010 on my PC and no problems......their hepdesk is also excellent.
^ helpdesk
^^^ ... but their spellchecker's useless.

<hides> lol
Behave Naz.....after years of using a laptop I am now trying to get used to a full size keyboard again.....
A couple of weeks ago, I changed from free firewall and AV to Norton Internet Security and have not noticed any slowing down of my XP laptop.
