Looking to go away on honeymoon in September 2012. We loved the idea of going to the Carribean but it seems that is their hurricane season!!

We would like to go somewhere that has white sand, clear seas and is warm. We'd also like there to be other things to do other than being on the beach, maybe a bit of culture, shopping and sightseeing.

Can anyone recommend anywhere that is nice and includes these things in September?

Thanks :)

I go to the Caribbean every September (Barbados) and it doesn`t really matter that it`s the hurricane season. The last time Barbados had a hurricane was 1955. You get a few showers around and you can see them dotted out to sea. If they come inland they blow over fairly quickly then the sun comes out again. I quite like the Caribbean in September actually because there are less people about and things are cheaper.
Mauritius is good, the weather isn't at it's best in September about 25 degrees and you do get the occasional short sharp shower but it is more than pleasant.

There's quite a lot to do and see on the island and getting about is quite easy either by hire car, bike or hiring a taxi for the day.

The island is a real hotchpotch of faith and culture and it is fascinating to see all the various wildly differing places of worship. The market in Curepipe is an amazing reflection of the cultural diversity too.

Oh great, we maybe won't rule out the carribean just yet then! Thank you
Seychelles they refer to Mauritius as the big place.

This is one of the uglier places

We were looking at Mauritius and Seychelles too, they look so nice. Does anyone know the best tour operators to go through too?
If you're on a tight budget you could try Ferteventura, has the beaches (Jandia in the South) some sights and a bit of culture.
If you are open to the idea of heading east, consider Malaysia. We did a tour which took in Kuala Lumpur, Borneo, Singapore and culminated in a week on Langkawi island. New zealand aside, the best holiday we have had.

Thanks for the idea jasadler but we happen to have a little bit of money just this once so we're going to treat ourselves :)

Would the weather in Malaysia be good in Sept do you know T & S?
I don't know about culture, but how about Cape Verde?
we booked the Seychelles with Rainbow Tours (6 years ago) and could not fault them. I would also recommend Malaysia, although I have only been to KL and Singapore, not Langkwai. Just a few miles over the border is Ko Lipe in Thailand and that's stunning
Langkawi is very nice (can recommend the Datai). However, September is when they get all their rainfall so probably not an option.
I`ve just thought of a place I want to get to in the next couple of years because it`s going to get more popular I think and I want to get there before the whole world starts going. Zanzibar. It`s a bit different from your average tropical isle as well. It might be worth looking into.
Australia, either Perth or Cairns are good in september
French Polynesia - summer there is November to April(very hot and humid with chance of showers), their winter is May to October (cooler but drier). If you dont mind a bit of travelling to get there. Check out Bora-Bora, it is paradise and easily as nice as the Maldives/Seychelles, possibly even better.
Been to the Seychelles about 10 years ago.

You land on Mahe and think wow this is something - then you go to a smaller island and think - actually by comparrison that was a dump. This is fabulous.

Then you go to an island like La Digue and can hardly speak - that picture is La Digue.

La Digue is difficult, there are no motor vehicles allowed and not many places that you can stay but if you've got a bit of money and want to treat yourselves to somewhere really special that most people haven't heard of let alone been to it is the real deal!!

Take a look at http://www.delfinoblu.gr/ it is exactly as the web site depicts
How about Florida or Mexico?
Hawaii has all you need.
Thailand - a few days in Bangkok for the culture and shopping and then down to one of the beaches. You get some fabulous prices.
