no, there isn't.
As sara says,you can't.
It is put in place by the TV Channel concerned, and is not a Teletext service(like Subtitiles 888) so is not removable.
If(rarely) I watch TV programmes that are signed I stick a square of cardboard over the signer.
Signed programmes are usually repeats of earlier broadcasts - watch out for the mid-evening slots, rather than the early a.m ones, which tend to be the repeats that are signed.

i dont think the rockford files is on earlier in the day but thanks for replying, my husband will have to put up with itxxx
can't do it 'fraid !!!
Stand a book in front of him.
I am fascinated by the signer, actually. I have a smattering of BSL but wish I had taken a course in it years ago.
Yes the signer is annoying, people can always use Teletext if they need it. Do they use the signer just in late night programmes ? I remember going to a London theatre ... and they had one on the corner of the stage .. very annoying as we were sitting on that side and she got in the way. I would just like to say that I am becoming hard of hearing but it was still annoying.
no excuse this day and age - the technology is there to overlay this. Think about how great it would be if the deaf could turn on that service for all mainstream progs, not just at 3am.

Saying that - the mad woman on the music channels is hilarious
