What is the meaning of 'pull time for a beating' in the following sentence

This means he had done "time" as in a prison sentence ,for beating someone up.In other words he had been in prison.

that's a rather unusual phrase... it's usually 'done time', as shaneystar says; I haven't heard 'pulled time' before.

To say 'pulled time' is an Americanism, and i would suggest that the author is an American.
