I have MSMoney running on XP SP3 sucessfully for some time. I now want to move it onto a new laptop running Win7. I have sucessfully loaded MSMoney program but I cannot open the transferred money file... 'c:program files\my money.mny'. I really do not want to set everything up again (several years worth!) can anyone help please? I get n arror message ' Money cannot locate 'c:program files\my money' or cannot pen it, possibly because it is a read only file ........' I think it is read only but money opens it successfully on the XP platform, allows me to amend it and files away the update.

Windows 7 does not allow data to be written in the programs files folder.
You might be able to get round it by turning off UAC, or re-installing Money to a folder outside the Program Files folder.

Turn off UAC like this:
Control Panel
User Accounts
Change User Account Control Settings
From the Windows XP laptop make a backup copy of MSMoney on to a usb stick. It should have a .mbf file extension.
On your new laptop plug in the usb stick, Start MSMoney, click File select 'Restore from backup' and then follow the prompts.
As Rojash says you might have to install Money elsewhere, I installed mine to a second drive.

Thanks People... after lots of time I decided to start over!! Money is working now with a backup to the C drive (not in a folder). Seems Ok. So thank you both again.
