I have a problem with my switch that controls the heated flooring in my conservatory. To cut a long story short, this evening, there was a dreadful sort of peanut smell coming from the conservatory/kitchen and it seemed to be getting stronger. Hubby had gone out Christmas shopping (last minute as usual!) but I had to call him home as I was scared the house was going to catch fire. I didn't know where the smell was coming from and thought the boiler had gone off or I had left the cooker on. He came back and eventually found the source of the problem - the timer switch for the heated flooring. He was appalled at what he saw. The wires had melted inside and the smell was burning plastic. I've taken some photos which I want to post on here to ask if anyone can tell why it's caused this. We had an electrician put the flooring in about 4 or 5 years ago. If someone can tell me how I can post these photos on here, and perhaps offer some reason why the insides have burnt like it did. Would it have caused my house to catch fire if we didn't know? We're due to be away for a few days and if this had happened when we were away, I dread to think what we would have come back to. Thanks for any input.

you can't. Post them on an image hosting site like tinypic or imageshack, and they'll give you a link which you can cut and paste on to AB. People can click on it and see the photos for themselves
You can't post photos directly into this site.

You need to upload them to a suitable hosting site, such as Tinypic
http://www.tinypic.com/
and then copy and paste the resulting links into your thread.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll try and post the photos there.
Just as an aside scrummy, if anything happens like this in the future just call the Fire Brigade out, that's their job.
I promise you they won't be angry! I'm a firefighter and I tell you, we would much rather be called out prematurely to a funny smell that could be something burning than turn up and have deal with a full fire situation!
Anyway, glad you got it sorted, merry christmas.

Thanks Gazza. I never thought of calling the fire brigade as I would only think to do that once there is a fire! Luckily, there wasn't a fire. Hubby has disabled the switch and we have to wait after the new year for an electrician to come and take a look. Happy Christmas to you too!
