Don't bother ...
In outrageously bad taste .. Designed to shock and be talked about in the press.
About as bad as a movie could get.

OK
I haven't see it yet, spoke to my ex about it whose a director and she was just infuriated that Westminster Council ' humiliated' as she put it the UK by screwing up some screening of it earlier in the year. She did however admit that it was ' not the best thing to come out of Serbia filmwise' and it does seem a touch of a pretensious premise that forced porn represents the political situation.

Male rape, female rape with aggresive brutality and snuff, molestation of newborn baby. Who the hell wants to keep that on the shelf?
They must have several screws loose.
I like a nice feelgood movie at Christmas - where's it showing?

Legend Of The Guardians (Animated, Family) made by the folks that did Happy Feet! Lovely film, effects and characters.
Lot of cringeworthy movies about at the moment.
The problem with films like this is that a lot of people can't seem to accept that art reflects everything, not just the nice things. I'm not recommending anyone see it if they're going to be upset (it's extremely unpleasant and I have no desire for a repeat screening) but designed to shock? Yes, but only to make a point.

There's a glut of sadistic torture movies out there. Some are mainstream and have theme park rides built in their honour. This is our pop culture right now. Someone has taken that and pushed it to it's worst excess and, having met the people who made the film and talked at length about the situation in Serbia, I think they're sincere and this is a genuine attempt at some kind of cinematic primal therapy.

I think people make the mistake that everything commited to film should be entertaining and untroubling but I don't agree. This film is offensive but not without reason although I can see how a viewer could be so turned off by the savagery as to miss any subtext.

Oddly, it's not designed to be talked about in the press, it's designed to express rage. In fact, the mainstream kneejerk right wing press have sensibly left it alone for the most part in order to not give extra publicity to something they disagree with.

Finally, I don't think there's anything wrong with bad taste or offending people and it's not actually a bad film if you can get around the horror of it. Stylish, good performances, nice shot set ups and a soundtrack that gets under your skin.

A good film about very bad things in other words.

Attached is a clip in which a father explains sexual awakening to his son in a very measured, tasteful way. Family relationships and quieter emotional moments are built into the film. I think that's what upset me most, the characters are so much better drawn than something like Hostel, where they are just meat to be hacked. In A Serbian Film, they take the time to make them

This a message in respond to ALBAGS comments. Can we first ask how you come to find out about this movie. What drew you to search and view A Serbian Film? I can rightfully say in defense that i wasn't originally going to see this movie. The hype and critic feedback from the film really made my stomach churn. I had no interest what so either in witnessing a film with such atrocities.

After it's withdrawal from Frightfest, i started to see the on-going development that arose from numerous interviews with the filmmaker's, Alan Jones thoughts and one of the most important youtuber's in the UK Lampyman*. The most interesting aspect of these developments was the director's decision to attend every screening, every interview and actually speak confidently and passionately about the movie, plus why he chose to make it.

I'll agree with your comment about it out to shock, but this is not just it's intentions. If it was in bad taste and simply set out to rape it's audiences; you would have no actors willing to work on this project (research the two lead actors Srđan Todorović and Sergej Trifunović) and you will find out that they are two of the biggest actors in Serbia. They are in contrast the Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt of their country. Do you think that a well established film crew and especially child actors being willing to work on a project if this was solely it's intentions. I think you will find that the film you are referring to would be made on a shoestring budget and go to such length to gain attention.

A Serbian Film is not only one of the most technically shot films of 2010, it's filmmakers have real intentions behind making such a project. It's audience follow a main protagonist who isn't sleazy or outrageously over the top. He is a working class male who happens to work in Porn. If you cannot see the allegory in this movie your not trying and simply shouldn't watch this movie. How the audiences should feel should b

How the audience feel Milos does. As i've said before, if this was simply exploitation none of the big talent from both the crew and cast would be involved (especially children). The fact remains: Serbian Film goes to such length's to rise important questions about how people in power mistreat the common man or woman. In today's western dominated culture, we do not find out what is really happening in the world, it's all about what they want you to know about. You remain passive as a good dog and accept what is offered to you.

The problem now is: The notoriety of the film is not helping it's causes. For example: promoting the film on it's violent content. Plus most critics just highlight the more controversial content in order to remove potential audiences. The film sadly was always going to be restricted to art houses as it's not in the English language, i feel the audience should decide for themselves on the film's content and issues, instead of being force fed opinions from people.

I'm not saying it a masterpiece, there are some flaws in the film that really remove me from it but its a near stroke masterpiece from a great future director.

May i also ask where you saw the film??
