I have had my iPhone 4 stolen whilst out shopping today. I have blocked the sim with 02, and remotely locked and wiped the phone via my Mobile Me account, my question is will the person who my phone be able to use it in any way despite all the blocks and locks I have applied.

Thank you

Contact your service provider and they will be able to lock the phone based on the unique IMEI number so the phone is unusable.
whoever stole it will only sell it. and some gullible person will think that £100 for an iphone 4 is the best bargain ever, cash in hand, no questions.
then find its blocked.
There is software to open it and make it undectectable by IMEI.
Claim the insurance? and forget about it.

Thanks for your answers, from what I have read, it is impossible for the phone company to block the actual phone, all they can do is the the sim. Even the phone block via Mobile Me is only useful if the phone is turned on with the sim in it, otherwise the phone will never receive the command. So all in all my Apple Mobile Me subscription is useless, I now have to wait 10 days for a crime reference number before i can make my claim. I'm bloody fuming
Think you will find the phone will work abroad they sell phones on ebay as unable to receive signal , faulty phone,

I wonder why a person would have a phone but no charger/ instructions/ disc/ box etc

Yeah, that is really dodgy!. I want to make sure that whoever has my phone can never use it, but I don't hold out much hope. I've read that 02 do not track IMEI numbers, and the Police were not very optimistic. I keep chec king to see if the phone has been turned on, but no joy. No phone for at least 10 days to boot, well ruffled around the boa

Put a notification on ebay for phones for sale in your area. You never know! Check in next issue of local "friday ad" type of newspaper.
on my iphone 2g
if you put a lock code on anyone who steals / finds the phone has 10 attempts to ulockck it after that it will wipe all the private info off the mobe automatically if you have set that function to run in settings
further your private info will have gone but anyone get get a mobe unlocked for a tenner and jailbreak it and use any network so yes they would be able to use it
There are NEW ones kicking around for £80 upwards, totally unlocked and blocked from network "interference".
The "finder" will not be able to use the phone as a phone in the UK. In Europe it will work but not in the UK.

However they will still be able to use the phones apps. So if you have any email setup or any private info on the phone they will be able to see it. I suggest you change all your passwords for email, facebook etc.

Thanks guys, I have remotely wiped the phone, and locked it. Hopefully that will be enough
Stoofur.. You do not know what you're on about.
I know of several working months after supposedly being shut down. They are modded .. and free SIMMed at same time.
Hi Al, I have based my response on what O2 told me when they IMEI lock the phone. However I am sure they would not tell me that "Yes it could be unlocked after an IMEI block". If you know otherwise then fair enough.
