Ok I want to buy my husband a new phone for xmas. At the moment we are with Vodafone on a contract, which does not expire for quite a while. Can I just buy one from I dont want to up grade as my husband will end up paying the bill each month, that would not be a xmas present from me ( although it sounds tempting) is there a way around this with out losing his old number xxx

if you want to stay on vodafone, just buy a handset from vodafone (can discard the sim it comes with) or buy one sim free, sometimes works out cheaper than being loced to a network. (carphone warehouse) or browse ebay for peoples unwanted upgrades (either vodafone or unlocked-dual banded)
I've just bought Sony Erikkson Experia as a gift I also had to buy £10 airtime. The Experia is to replace a phone that is on contract, o2 allowed me to use the £10 airtime I had to buy to top-up my own (o2) mobile. Now the new Experia can be used on the existing contract with o2 using the Sim from her old phone. The contract by the way is for two mobiles (mother and daughter) but not yet due for an upgrade.
