I have just bought a new TV which has built in "Free-View" and built in "High Definition".

I can receive the "Free-View" channels but not in HD.even though I have a modern digital roof top aerial.

Could anyone help please?

I think that you will find that there are
not many freeview channels using HD as yet.
Has your TV actually got "Freeview HD" built in (as opposed to ordinairy Freeview).

You must have "Freeview HD" to pick up Freeview in HD, even if your TV is "HD ready"..

You can see a list of the TVs here (may not be all of them)

To get HD you could subscribe to Sky, Virgin, or get FreeSat.
Or but a blu ray player and watch blu ray disks.
VHG has almost certainly identified the problem. Just because an 'HD Ready' TV set has built-in Freeview it doesn't mean that it can receive Freeview in HD. It simply means that it can accept HD signals from an external source (such as a Blu-ray player, a Freesat HD box or a Freeview HD box). The tuner inside the TV set is just an 'ordinary' (SD) one, not an HD tuner.

Unless you're able to exchange your TV set, you'll need to buy a set-top box in order to receive Freeview in HD:

I get 4 HD channels on my TV with Freeview/HD, but there is a difference between Full HD and HD Ready.

I think it depends on your area whether you'll receive them or not.
Here in Bournemouth I am not able to receive HD until 2012, and I am with Sky. My TV is A Panasonic LCD with Viera.

Thank you for all your answers, my TV has definitely got built in Freeview HD, and not HD ready as already been suggested.

It should be able to receive BBC HD and ITV HD at least.

Have you checked that Freeview HD is actually available in your area? Not everywhere that can receive Freeview can yet get the HD service:
