Interesting question - whilst I grew up with Bowie, I never gave him much attention until I was in my late 30s. Then I realised that every time Q magazine did their 'Top 100 Albums Of All Time' poll, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Maes was ALWAYS in the top five. So I downloaded it and became a bit of a convert.

For me, this list is pretty easy:

1. Panic In Detroit (because it has the best opening line of any song EVER ("Looked a like Che Guvera / Drove a diesel van") unbeatable.

2. Sound and Vision (reminds me of walking around Brixton Market with my mum as a nipper...also has the most ridiculously long intro ever.

3. Let's Dance (second best bassline of all time, only topped by Billie Jean)
4. Ashes To Ashes (just about the most perfect pop song, with an accompanying video that still looks good to this day)

5. Jump They Say (the last great Bowie single - and a video that Stanley Kubrick would be proud of)

6. Watch That Man (because it's technically impossible to dance to, without swaggering around with your hands on your hips)

7. Young Americans (because it's just so damn cool and because Luther Vandross sung backing vocals on it)
8. Kooks (because when you understand that he's singing to his son, it makes him sound ordinary and extraordinary at exactly the same time).

9. Starman (because this is the first song I ever remember seeing performed on Top Of The Pops, and the first time I ever remember my parents looking uncomfortable "Why is he wearing make up? Is he a poof or something?")

10. Ziggy Stardust (because I know a woman who went to the final concert and I will always be jealous of her for that...and because it
is a diamond of a song)

There are many others, but you get the point...!
lets dance cos i always wanted the red shoes the girl wore in the video i was about 11
Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed.

LMAO, I couldn't resist that ... and you did walk right into it.

By the way, my claim to fame is that I am the only Bowie fan in the western world who HATES 'Heroes'.

I...just...can't...stand...that...song.

I literally don't get why it's so loved.
Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby ... just to be festive.
