Woke up Friday morning with a blood shot eye, looked like a little vessel had burst. It did get a bit better over weekend but today it feels dry. I don't think having the ventilation in the car on full blast to keep the windscreen mist free helped last night, but my question is, will it improve by itself or should I go along to the chemist's for something?

Leave it alone......it will settle.....the bleeding is almost certainly a sub conjunctival haemorrhage......no big deal and will disappear within 2weeks.
And try not to rub it, coccinelle....it will go in time.
(I use Optrex multi action eyewash if i get an irritation, and it helps soothe the eye too.

Thank you. I don't like doing anything with my eyes so it's a comfort to know I should leave it be. It's no longer blood shot but just feels gritty and dry.
Great stuff, coccinelle.......sounds like it's already starting to heal....a few more days and you should be ok. :0)
try a lubricant to help with the dryness. I find Systane to be a good one which gives relief from the gritiness for a good duration. As prev- porbable sub conj. haem.
