Hope the following link works OK...

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1527186.html

Is anybody old enough (and/or sad enough) to remember a similar story shown on Blue Peter about 30 to 35 years ago?

I'm sure either John Noakes or Peter Purves visited somebody who had invented a similar pair of "shoes" for walking on water.

Has it all been a terrible dream? Please put me out of my misery.

This is an ideal question for the proposed "Silver Surfers & Nostalgia" category.

I seem to remember this item (the shoes were much more cumbersome than the ones in your link) - a man was "walking" across a lake I think.

Somewhere on the World-Wide Interweb, there will be a link to the film clip.  I have had a quick surf but without any luck.  Perhaps somebody else will find it.
