What a delightful piece of work, on a theme that I've been playing around with myself and which I will now have to shelve. Some of the thematics led to a lot of head scratching on the grounds that I knew they had to be but couldn't see how (with one exception that turned out to be a straight clue).
Not a bad curtain call: may Hubris' supply of celestial Listeners never run dry.

Contendo - re Oxford - there is a small reference to the on-line version in the magazine but no explanation as to why. I found the end game to this tough but maybe I'm lacking imagination?
Thanks to all who have responded - now completed - going back to 4109 which I'm also struggling with the end game.
Mullingar, assuming your answer to 29 was featured on last night's 'Autumnwatch' on BBC2, then try taking out each of the 3 internal letters in turn, separated from the rest by the same linkage used in 3 other examples - only one is a real word, defined by the second half of the clue.

The title can't really be treated thematically, as the result isn't a real word.
