Re my last question about timer on convector heater - I know this is a really silly question!! - if the heater is plugged into the wall but the timer is switched off so it wont come on will it still use up electric??

a tiny amount to run the timer, the heater won't use any.
Possibly a tiny, tiny amount to keep the timer going but no, not really.
