Hope this is in the right section.
When we came out of the In-Laws tonight there was a really bright star in the sky, it was about 7pm and it was SW-W ish and quite low in the sky. The kids were fascinated by it and we were wondering if anyone knew what star it is or is it maybe a planet?
Many thanks for any help,
Daffi x

if it was near the moon it will be Jupiter

Wow! Thanks for that x
I came out of my mum`s house at 7.30 and the moon wasn`t S-SW, it was E so would the star be venus?
Jupiter has been very very bright and visible for the last few weeks but I'd say it's more SE in the evening

Doh! Meant SE -E! Silly me! x
Jupiter is in the east at present, Mar, Saturn and Venus are clustered around the sun but venus and mars will have set by 7pm. That leaves Saturn which sets a little after the sun. Look up 'Night Sky' on google all will be clear, even if it's cloudy.

Just realised I typed 'very bright start' and not star! Between that and getting my west and east mixed up! God knows where my brain has gone this evning! :-s
Don't worry Daff correct spelling isn't a high priority on AB.

Luckily! Lol!
Thanks for all your help x
Jupiter will be due south at about 11:30pm. Now is an exceptional time to bring out the binoculars/telescope for a look at Jupiter's moons.

Saturn rises about an hour before sunrise in the morning.
