If you want a book you may want to consider this one .

To learn similar online at your own pace, htmlgoodies is one of the good places to start.
I'm sorry but your question is impossible to answer until you've decided upon exactly how you want to design your website.

As I've posted on your other thread, some people recommend learning HTML coding and doing everything 'from basics'. If you decide to follow that route you'll require a book about HTML, rather than a book related to any particular software.

However, if (like most people) you'd rather buy a 'WYSIWYG' (= "What you see is what you get") program, you'll need a book which is specifically related to that particular program. For example, if you spend a small fortune on Adobe Dreamweaver, you'll need a book about Dreamweaver. If you choose Microsoft Web Expressions, you'll need a book about that particular program.

Choose your technique and/or program first, then post again to ask which book is the best guide to it.

There are 2 main facets to web design. There is:

1) The underlying languages used in web design, like HTML, CSS and JavaScript, as well a knowledge of graphics like GIF and JPEG.

2) The actual DESIGN of a web site, its color, ease of use, fonts, graphics, and so on.

A lot of people think that once you learn HTML and CSS you can design a web site.

This is NOT true.

It is like saying if you buy a person a paint brush and a set of paint they will be a great painter.

So as well as learning how to actually put a site together you need to understand how to DESIGN one.

This book is pretty good at showing how to DESIGN a web site and it does not cover much about HTML and CSS.

The book is Web Design for Dummies by Lisa Lopuck.
If you want to learn HTML and CSS, and have a useful reference guide as well, then this book is good

HTML, with XHTML and CSS by Elizabeth Castro.

At the start she covers the basics of HTML and CSS, then gives plenty of examples of how to use them, so it is a combination of a "how to" book and a reference book.
