I managed to install eeebuntu on my daughter's netbook but am baffled as to how to get it to connect to the internet, we tried hard wired to the modem and attempted to set up a wireless connection with no joy. Is there something I need to enable in the BIOS?
TIA

Wish I'd bought mine into work now :)

Hard wired should work with no problems, and wireless should be pretty straight forward.

OK, from memory, you should have a little icon that looks like a computer near the clock, if you right click on this it should give you a couple of options two of which are to enable networking and enable wireless, make sure both are selected.

Once thats done you should be able to click on the network monitor icon next to it (looks like two screens when not connected) and it will bring up a list of wireless networks, just select yours and enter the key.

If you are not getting the options can you remind me of the model of eee it is and what version of eeebuntu you downloaded.

I only have the option to enable networking, no wireless mentioned. It was already enabled. When I hover over the network icon all it gives me is a VPN connection>Configure VPN option.
Try the wireless hotkey, you might have to press it twice.

I think it's FN + F2 (but I cold be wrong) the correct key should have this symbol on it..

Sorry, netbook is Asus eee 1001HA
Eeebuntu v.3.0

Tried the wireless hotkey, it just brings up an icon that says "wireless radio on" or "wireless radio off", depending on how many times I press Fn and the hotkey. This is so frustrating, a netbook without the net is a bit crap really. lol
damm it!

the 1001HA is firstly, a model released after eEB3 and, secondly, is one of the rarest eee models. As such there is no wireless drivers for the card in it included.

following a bit of poking about in the forums I've found the following that others have claimed works and gets the wireless working...

Click on applications > accessories > terminal

then in the terminal window that opens type the following 3 commands exactly (press enter after each one, you will also need to enter the main root password you set during the install when prompted)

sudo mkdir -p /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/

sudo touch /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat

sudo service network-manager restart

And then see if you have wireless.

If it doesn't work post back and I'll investigate further.

I have no idea why, but the terminal will not let me enter the password. When I type it in the cursor doesn't move. It lets me type the first command, then asks for the password, as I can't enter it I can't continue past that part. Very odd.

After lots of googling and forum browsing it seems I am going to be unable to get eeebuntu to work on my daughter's laptop for the reasons you mentioned. The 1001HA is not supported and there is not a newer version of eeebuntu that does have driver support for the model. As I deleted Windows XP when I was installing eeebuntu it now seems that I have a completely useless netbook as it cannot connect to the internet either wirelessly or hard wired.

I suppose I am going to have to try and save up and buy a new netbook for her :(
If you want (and this is a genuine offer..) get it sent to me and I'll sort it for you and send it back free of charge...

I pretty sure we have some common facebook friends (well most of my faebook friends are very common, but that's another story) so I'm sure one of those can put you in touch with me off here.

I don't have anyone from AB on my facebook profile any more Chuck, I deleted it a while back and then made a new one as I had some problems with a stalker type. lol

Are your initials M.B.? If they are I think i've found you on the Answerbank FB page. I'll send a friend request if it is you, my initials are J.M. in case you wonder who the odd woman is trying to add you. lol
