last week I had 2 sofas delivered and after the delivery guys had gone I noticed a scuff to the fabric. I assume this happened when they manoeuvred the sofas in to the house.

I called the company and they're sending a rep out to look at it tomorrow. he called today to arrange a time, and mentioned repairing it.

the damage is slight, but visible. I want to know if I am within my rights to ask for a new sofa, as I don't want it repaired.

any ideas, please?

thank you for your helpful answer, Chris. I'll be quoting a bit of that to Brian tomorrow :o)

craft, spot on what I was thinking.. I just wasn't sure if I have the right to want a replacement.
Question Author
thanks Tambo, that's what I needed :o)
If they start arguing with you and trying to control your decision tell them conversation is closed and you'll return the sofa and buy from another store. No business like completion and reputable business are interested in pleasing its customers.
sara something similar happened to me and I let them talk me into keeping it, but with a huge discount. I never liked it after that as I knew it wasn't perfect so in fact I'd spent money on something I didn't want.
Question Author
society, I can't physically take it back (there are 2 matching 4 seater sofas) so I would have to rely on them being taken.

craft, I get that. mine has minor damage, and I could live with a repair but only if they do a hefty discount.

although I bet I'd point it out to everyone :o/
ahhh well there's the problem, individual sofas are not classed as a suite like the old 3 piece and you'd have to return the lot and they'd charge for pick up , assuming they have a 'change your mind if not satisfied' policy. Which i bet they don't,
I know the feeling you talking about Crafty, that's why I never buy something because it's on sale. I'd rather pay more for exactly what I want.

Stand your ground Sara, don't let them intimidate you. In the end you are paying for what you want, you are not paying them for what they want you to have.
Usually when new stock is delivered they will take damaged stock. Pin them down to a written time statement.
hope its not leather sara.....hard to match the batch dyes
Question Author
okay, I'll report back tomorrow night!

thanks for all the comments (except for Dot's Argos statement!) and advice :o)
Question Author
it's not, Tambo. cream chenille-type fabric.. I must be mad!
nowt wrong with argos sara (except the jewellery of course)
Sara...you watch. You'll get it replaced and someone will spill a glass of red wine on it :-)

(joking...touch wood)
i had a repair on some damaged sofas (dropped on way in!) from *dee eff ess* years ago! they don't "patch" per se, they completely exchange the damaged component part! it worked really well!

i would see how they do, before i insisted on a new one, with all that hassle!

ummmm.. I'm just waiting for it, lol!

they came and saw the sofa on Weds, offered to replace the fabric on the damaged arm and I told him to go and have a word with his boss, because that wasn't acceptable.

he phoned me yesterday and offered to replace the "whole arm" (like this was a magnificent solution!) and I said no. he finally said I may get a partial refund, and I'm waiting for him to get back to me with a figure.
Question Author
Cath, thanks.. I just didn't want it taken apart and put back together again. I know I'm being arsey about it!
Sara,
was there really anything wrong with the old ones? Could you not get them back?
Question Author
my old sofas? they were about 12 years old, and I sold them to a strapping Polish bloke on Ebay ;o)
My 3 corner suite the larger part was slightly damaged as they had difficulty getting it through door. Did not see it till after they went. Rang DFI they sent a man out he took pic of it and colour. One week later he came back. The whole side part was took off and he put other piece on and very professionly done..No problem.
