i tunes genius...aaarrrggghhhhhh

is it me or is anybody else having problems with the genius mix.
i have opened an account,switched genius off/on,updated it,went onto manage recommendations and still nothing.
there is a genius button at the bottom of the itunes box but it does not light up when the cursor is on it.
i press the genius button on the sidebar,it says select a track in your playlist and press genius but nothing happens.
there are 600 songs on my music
and plus it does not give me a choice of how i would like to view my music.ie in a grid,coverflow,a list or album list.
i have just downloaded itunes 10 crap and itunes 9 was the same
