I love Sunday mornings on here.

All the people who can't finish their crossies post the clues in Q&P, and this ABer called kayakamina just rattles off all the answers, with little explanations.

He's so clever.

I try to parse my answers to help the questioner and elaborate if the meaning is still not clear.

I can only do the Guardian ... and not Araucaria.

Does it deliberately get harder as the week goes on?

It seems to.

Monday (usually Rufus?) is quite gentle sometimes. By Thursday, I'm often gazing at the page with my head spinning.

They do get progressively harder through the week culminating in the Prize puzzle on the Saturday.
Araucaria normally sets a special crossword on Bank Holiday weekends and yesterday's was a cracker - you should give it a go.

I've got to the point where, if it's Araucaria (too often on Saturdays) I just eye-skim down the clues for any total "gimmes" and then close the page.

I used to rely on Kayakamina for the Times crossword. But now, thanks to his/her guidance over the past year I can usually complete it myself. Thanks K.

Hopkirk,
think of an each way bet as 2 wagers. say you'd a £1 each way on a horse. £1 of that is betting that the horse will win. The other £1 is that it will be placed, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
If you had £1 ew on a 5-1 winner you'd be paid £5 and your £1 stake for it winning and a 1/4 of the odds for the ew part. £2.25.
