i just cant find a deoderant that works anymore. can you recommend one that will work? even after showering i still smell. i have used 2 or 3 different shower gels and roll on and spray deoderants but they just seem to enhance the sweaty smell, even when im clean! i just dont know whats happened over the last few weeks. ive taken to using a wet wipe when out and about and a carry a small spray deoderant but that really doesnt work!

Karl- I may have been misinformed but I was told that the enzymes in washing powder (that clean the clothes) are killed if subjected to temperatures higher than 40C?
Also, it is not advisable for women to use soap "there" as you advise as it can lead to fungal infections such as thrush, not a pleasant experience!
Do understand what you mean about stepping away from the shower to apply soap though!
To the best of my knowledge: While being the modern way, using enzyme powders at low temperatures is not as effective in the context of this thread as raising the temperature using appropriate agents. External washing with soap or similar does not carry/increase a risk of infection while not washing does. As for thrush, cystitis and similar afflictions, the type of clothing worn is also an issue. Some cleaning materials and potion manufacturers and salesmen will however dispute this because they have a vested interest while other "experts" will broadly agree.

Agree with Karl - stand away from shower when applying gel/soap.
I personally think soap is more effective than gel (though more damaging to skin).
I use gel everywhere else, and soap for in the areas that Australians refer to as ABC (Armpits, Bum, Crotch).
I think I understand what you're getting at with the laundry washing- higher temperatures will kill off bacteria whereas enzymes and lower temperatures won't?
Also- it is very difficult to wash purely externally!
I tend to go with the antibacterial thing and use bodywashes such as Sanex or Carex and find that really helps.

I also find using a scrub and one of those massage sponges with the rougher bit on them helps me feel cleaner.

I use the mitchum roll on then an unperfumed spray deodorant (I am paranoid about sweating and smelling!) making sure I cover both anti perspirant and deodorant, that my armpits are properly dry first and the spray is far enough away from my underarms when spraying.

I carry one of those little things of antibacterial handwash if I need to have a freshen up during the day and always have deodorant in my bag.

I try and wear clothes which keep me cool (am usually too hot if anything) and away from my underarms if possible and especially keep my feet cool as find that keeps the rest of me cooler.
Sophie, this is not really a precise science and thus just around/over folds and any dangly bits can safely be referred to as external. Just don't try to push/stretch those boundaries.
