To all Uk ladies, I need help. Im an average if slightly lardy size 14 and need some decent trousers for work. I find the current hipster thing horrible as with a high waist line and a tubby gut they end up being pube'sters. Anyone know where I can buy decent non-grannified troos? Please?????

Have you tried Next? I'm a 14 ,very pear shaped, and I find their trousers always fit fairly well, quite generous.Loads of non-hipster style work trousers.I dont work for them by the way!

I havent yet but I will now! thanks!
Can a man answer? Or would a 'belt and braces' solution be a little crass for girlies?
Dorothy Perkins did some lovely back fastening trousers which held all in but stylishly. Not sure if they still have that style but usually have something that fits the bill . Dont try Primark for trousers if you are feeling nervous - you'll only end up depressed.( most other things are ok tho)
I just want to praise you, comloulou, for refusing to give in to the demands of fashion which only suits the very thinnest. Seeing decidedly porky (I have seen some who are no doubt much wobblier than you, but still they strut their stuff) lasses walking about with their spare tyre laid bare between troos and top is really unattractive.
Some people, karl, find fat bellies very attractive.. ;-)

Well yes Karl I find the 'is she preggers?' look quite repellant and 6 months at the gym did nothing to reduce my girth (im a nice 12-14 every where else damnit) so short tops and pubesters are not going to do me any good....xyzzplugh who? where? are they married?

p.s I gave in and bout too big ones. I have room to grow and saved myself the indignity of the likely camel-toe of the smaller ones. (would it be too much to ask for sizes inbetween the standard?)
Yes, I know what you mean about sizes, etc. being dictated - although things are a bit better these days, there was a time not too long ago when I was asked to get someone a pair of slippers and was told by shop after shop that slippers are only available for Christmas ! The sort of thing that really gets me on my high horse is when I go looking for some DIY material and, on describing exactly what I want, I am asked in return: "What are you using it for ?". I mean, when you buy a bag of flour at the supermarket they don't ask you what you are going to use it for. I suppose it's just another test of our mettle. Hope you enjoy your trousers and that, if that is what you want, you shrink down to the smaller size (watch the crisps and other junk food). I reckon it is true that the majority of men prefer women who are not too bony, and because women lay down fat differently from men, we are probably conditioned to feel more attracted to those looking curvacious (i.e. fat in the right places). I think I saw a survey reported somewhere to the effect that women are far more critical of "fat" on women than men are - and they are seemingly prone to an extra critical attitude toward themselves individually.

well youre right about the stupidity of these things, slippers are a good example. Then theres the fact that you cant buy a decent birthday card at christmas or valentines or stPatricks or anyother holiday. I also find that (please dont think im some kind of anne widdecome clone) anyone with breasts larger than cadburys cream eggs is going to find it hard to fit them into a pretty top without them being squashed down into grotesque mounds. Why arent we able to buy clothes like men do, with measurements in the trousers. I dont know a single female who fits exactly into the size structure we have.
You have no doubt seen the series of ads that Royal Mail used to have on TV under the slogan "I saw this and thought of you". Well, it just may be of intertest to you to know that the Aldi stores are to have ladies jeans (not hipster type) on sale starting Thursday 6th March, at under 7 (I think it was). If there is an Aldi shop within your reach then you should aim to be there at or shortly after opening because their weekly offers usually sell out quite quickly.

Thank you Karl, very thoughtful.
