I am genuinely asking this for a friend, one that I can't advise as have never been pregnant or taken a test! She is having a panic that she could be pregnant - from what I know she could be but does not have any actual sypmtoms to make her think this. She said she went to buy a pregnancy test but it tells her to use it so many days after being late or whatever. Her problem is that she has no regularity with her periods at all, has only had a little bit of bleeding in the 10 weeks or so since last had intercourse but this is not abnormal for her but cannot pin down when she should use a test - can anyone advise? i feel a bit daft not being able to advise as she has come to me as a 'maturer' lady but I have never been in this situation.

thanks all for your help - so basically what you are all saying is that this far on it doesnt matter what stage in her cycle she is at? The guideline re dates is probably for people quite early on trying to find out if pregnant ot not?
no it doesnt matter what stage cycle she is in.
No we are not interested in what stage in her cycle she is, we are interested in whether or not she is pregnant.....................have i missed something here?
just get her to do a test
If she fell pregnant 10 weeks ago then she wont have a cycle anyway!

If she has continued to have unprotected sex since then who can tell

thank you - I have been left feeling pretty stupid now but will pass on your advice. I was just trying to understand the procedure properly so I can advise her best I can.
best to just tell her to get a pregnancy test as this will detect if she is pregnant or not 3 weeks after sex
