I am a fit  66 year old but have been told that I will need a hip replacement in future.   However, I am not too keen on the operation and will do anything to 'keep myself going' i.e. exercise and medicines.

Any suggestions.

There was a similar Q on here a little while ago.
I shall carry on looking for it as there was quite a lot of advice.
IT was YOUR question - did you not like any of the replies?
Try having another read anyway.

We answered this question for you before.if you consider yourself "fit" why bother to ask again. At 66 you are more likely to get a hip replacement than I am at ten years younger than you and I have a job to walk from A to B sometimes.
I repeat keep moving ,take Glucosamine,go swimming.I am not keen on operations but i shall be extremely glad when they do decide it's time for me have a new hip.Then...they might give me a new knee..you never know your luck.
I know a guy who has had a hip replacement after years of agony.. he looks much better now.. and he is only in his 30's
Well this is great kev and good luck to him.The trouble is with the NHS or so I have been told, with a young person they will do these operations. The older you get the longer you wait.My consultant said to me that they only last about ten years so they make you wait as long as possible .If you have to have a second one they are not always succesful.A friend of mine had a replacement when she was 58 ,she is now 69 and has got to have another one and is dreading it..
To be frank I could peg out before I get a replacement and will have put up with years of pain for nothing!! It's all a gamble really

i would seriously consider having the hip replacment as i have just lost me dear nanny and she has had a bad hip for a few years now, but her health deteariated and she began to develop lots of other problems, she was 77. eventually over the past year her hip was so bad that she had to crawl up the stairs and go down them on her bum with the help from my grandad. it was very sad to see.so please deffinaly consider having it done, u wont regret it i promise
