Application will not uninstall

I'm looking for some help with a game application- I've been running the game for about 2 years problem free... until recently.
The initial problem is that the programme won't launch; an error message of
" unable to load manifest file 'scripts/game_sounds_manifest.txt' "

Since then I've been trying to uninstall the application so I can re install from scratch but nothing has worked.
I've tried to uninstall from the game disc. I've tried to uninstall from the control panel. I've also tried just deleting the files but nothing has worked...

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful...

maybe the program can't be launched or uninstalled without that file? have you tried simply copying the file from cd or web?
there's always an option to format the hard drive.

Thanks for the tip... tried it and still no joy.

Is there a way to remove game applications (installed and run from a disc) if they won't uninstall through the normal means?

I think at this point I'd be happy to lose the data and start again to shift the error message.
