Since having an operation for carpal tunnel problems, I have lost some strength in my wrist. The op was about five months ago.

Could this be due to the op, or would that be coincidental? And will the strength in it return in time?

mrs.chappie, I think the strength in your wrist has gone because you have lost the strength in your tendons and ligaments around the joint. I would highly recommend that you get some physiotherapy for your wrist which should help the problems and help you regain the strength in your wrist. You could either ask your GP to refer you to the physiotherapist at your local hospital, or speak to the doctor who treated you at the hospital. They should be able to refer you. Or maybe you can afford some physio privately. Just a thought. I broke my ankle at the end of April and although the fracture has now healed, I am currently having physio to strengthen my ankle tendons and ligaments which are very tight and stiff. It is taking time, but I am sure I'll get there in the end. I am sure it might take a bit of time for your wrist to recover, but physio should help the healing process.

Thanks very much chokkie and doc. I did wonder if it's a case of leaving it a bit longer, as it's only been a few months.
Weakness of the wrist is not an uncommon complication of operation for CTS. May or may not return, only time will tell.............5months is a little to early to ***.

Thanks Sqad. Wonder what the starred-out word is?
I had weakness for a while afterwards (I had my op in 2000).

All sensation returned eventually and I can honestly say that it was the best decision I ever made proceeding with the surgery. I was in acute pain until I had it done.
