Fist things first Please don't think I am picking on lady drivers, its just that when I go to pick my grandchildren up from school most of the drivers are women, I have seen them turn up late, the children jump in the car and they are away no seatbelts on, I have seen them on mobiles going through the car parks where children are walking, I have seen them sat in their cars smoking. It sounds like I don't like women but I do I have the greatest respect for them all BUT it's frightening to watch the pick their children up from school and it's not an odd incident. I say again I am not picking on the ladies. It's an obviation

I asm a childless lady driver and I will go out of my way to avoid passing schools at pick up time because the driving standard is so scary. I am not the only female I know who feels this way
I agree about the seat belts, I often see women and sometimes men too driving around and they are firmly belted up and yet they have young children just loose in the back not strapped in .....   I live near a school and every day the cars park all down the lines saying 'do not park' outside the school, making it very dangerous for those children trying to see to cross the road.   Madness!
I agree, I live in the next road to a school , What gets me is parents who live in my road, load the car with kids to go maybe 500yds to the school no wonder some kids are unfit and overweight. This school is on a bend, the par,  but they  sit talking for 30mins after the kids are in school. This make for a hazard to other cars, they would be the first to shout if their child was injured in an accident.

I totally agree with you Lady-p-gold  men are not blameless I should have said this myself
I have to drive past four schools to get to work, the first two are state primary and middle schools, most of the parents walk with their kids. The third and fourth are very exclusive private schools and WOMEN SHOULDN'T DRIVE LONGWHEEL BASE VEHICLES.  Certainly not on public roads unless they have more than 4 children or are pulling a horse box!!!!!!! drives me insane (excuse the pun!) I know this wasn't the point of your observation as such, but it is a nightmare - why don't schools do more to encourage people walking.  Even with the private ones, most of the children don't live that far from the schools. Or whats wrong with the way the americans do it, with school buses.  grrrrr.

A few weeks ago I was behind a woman who was driving something that resembled a tank, she had two small children in the back both standing on the seats! She was actually turned round in the driving seat trying to get them to sit down, and was swerving all over the road. Not only a very bad driver, but a very bad mother too if you ask me!

....and yes, I did get her registration number!

If you weren't picking on women drivers then why even mention that these bad drivers were women.

I see far more bad men drivers than women on the roads - you're just more likey to see more women around schools.

i used to be a bus driver in the 90s ,one day i was driving a double decker up a street that had a school in it ,there were cars parked on both sides of the street ,the car in front of me stopped in the middle of the street and the driver got out and started to walk to the schoolgates i called and asked what they were doing  the driver turned and said picking my kids up i said but you are not allowed to block the highway and SHE said tough you will have to wait .well there was nothing i could do so i did have to wait so did everyone else behind me .when she came back a few minutes later she just gave a withering look at me and got in the car with kids and drove off .now thats cheek.

There are many people who don't really finish learning to drive.  Often they are people with spouses who always drive when they are together, and who drive no farther than the school and the supermarket.  In most cases they are women because that is the way things are done.

Why can't the bloody kids walk to school?
I never venture on the roads round my home unless I can't avoid it between 8.30-9.15 and between about 2.50-3.30 - except during the school holidays.  98% of the children around here seem to have lost the use of their legs, and 75% of their parents/relatives/minders/chauffeurs seem to be totally unaware of the significance of road markings, parking restrictions or the Highway Code.  Oh - and at least 50% of their cars seem to have direction indicators that don't work.......
