guys any ideas were the tdc sensor or crankshaft senor is on my wifes audi a3 1800 petrol r reg ....thanks lee

Crank sensor will be in block .. look like temp sender and be either above driveshaft underneath or in housing on top.
Cam sensor (TDC) not likely to fail .. will not stop engine running.
In head near cam bearing boss.

I presume this is to fix your cutting out issue?
Good guess if you checked spark .... and you didn't have one.

al ....there is sparks from all plug .the car has done this a few times but started...the wife said she locked ten unlocked the car and it wouls start .but ive had no joy the engine just turns over .im thinking immobiliser but not sure ...?any ideas lee
Is the immobiliser in the ECU? Factory?
If separate, then could be either.
I've known sensors only cause a cut out when hot.

factory fitted i think,the alarm is separte from the key..you put the key in and a picture of a car lights up .when it goes out you turn the key it,s supposed to start but just turns over ...lee
If I had to take a guess .. my money would be on the sensor.
It should be possible to test it. But check ebay to see if any are around.

thanks mate bloody thing getting on my nerves.someone said it could be the tdc sensor.if it is slightly out the car wont start
usually run rough if tdc (cam) sensor dodgy.
As for not starting .. anyones guess!

On my Renault the sensor is fitted on top of the clutch bell housing to pick up the tdc timing and lets the ecu when to fire the plugs.

The TDC sensor does not get "out" It can also stop the car starting up it can also drop the maximum revs of the engine
