Indicator lights problem with Berlingo

The indicator lights have suddenly started behaving randomly, flashing at odd times without being activated by me. I have taken the vehicle to a garage and they say that a new part is necessary but will take three days to arrive. Does anyone know what this part is and could I fit it myself, or is it possible there is just a loose connection somewhere? (I've googled various sites and can find no mention of lights problems on Berlingos)
