Exactly my point sherrard, I can spell fairly well, it's maths that stumps me, absolutely freeze if I am put on the spot with a calculation to work out!
I suppose you should be ok with primary maths then (they don't do anything too taxing - do they?).
Yeah should be, I'm ok if I'm given the question and am not expected to answer very quickly, it's the person stood waiting for an answer that's the problem rather than the maths itself!
I'm sure you'll be fine - unless you have some geeky maths whizz in your class!
I did in my last placement! A Year 1 boy who when we were counting in 3s said "This is easy!" so I asked him to count backwards in 3s from 36 which he did no problem at all!
There's always one - you sound like you are really enjoying your training though. (If you see anything posted from me that is negative about teaching - don't listen to me!! - Don't want to put you off.)
I didn't enjoy my last placement that much actually, children were lovely but teachers v negative! Have enjoyed all the others though so overall am looking forward to this time next year when I'll (hopefully) have a job and my own lovely classroom awaiting children!
You'll have to do a maths skills test in order to gain QTS. I'd get practising now. I know several very able GTP trainees who are having trouble passing the maths test.
you would be better off looking for somewhere yourself to be honest riley, i was in the same boat a few years ago and was about to be evicted from my home. Because i was ''DESPERATE'' to be housed they put me where they liked, i didnt really have a say of where i would like to be housed as their attitude was 'its this or nothing'. Me and my son were given a 2nd floor flat that was full of damp and stank of pee, we were living above and below junkies who would continuously party and play loud music till early . Needless to say i found somewhere else within a couple of months. It was a awful and depressing time of my life, i lived in constant fear and was scared to leave to go to work and to take my son to school. Did the council care????? in a word no!
