Bloody Sunday Enquiry

The use of public inquiries by Tony Blair

During his six years in office, the Prime Minister has perfected the use of the public inquiry as a political tool. When it comes to dubious events which have occurred during his own premiership, an inquiry is something to be strongly resisted as a waste of valuable time and money. When it comes to scandals which have occurred under previous administrations, on the other hand, no effort is to be spared in the quest for truth. ”

Well if the first Bloody Sunday inquiry hadn't tried to whitewash everything this wouldn't have been necessary would it.

Seriously though - British soldiers shoot dead a whole bunch of unarmed protestors and you don't think that warrants an Enquiry?

Bet it would if it happened in your home town
Well I don't think the actual enquiry will be labelled a waste of money by the relatives of those killed, but it defo has been a lawyers paradise.
Possibly not 40 years on though.
Cameron has certainly turned out to be a pacifier. Last week he used his yellow streak to accede to Obamas rages and this week ditches our own troops to satisfy the provos.
What happened that day was a disgrace. Frustrated, testosterone-fuelled squaddies led by public school Officers that didn't have a clue.
Another shameful episode in our history. And no-one takes the rap!
We should probably have an inquiry into why it took 12 years for the bloody sunday inquiry to tell us something we all knew anyway.
"Bet it wouldnt have happened in your home town"
No probably not unless the population of his home town were bombing and shooting everyone.
