Does anyone know or can recommend a company to get a second policy.
My lad is going to learn to drive ( God help me) to this end I've got him an ancient Astra so I need to get insurance for myself, his mum and him with his provisional. I know I can't carry my NCB but I don't want to pay a £1000 whic is what I'm being quoted on the compasrison sites.

I would be very surprised if you'd get anything for less than £1000, maybe even £1500-£2000 is the best you could hope for. Good luck though
Like Factor 30 said - £1000 is not too bad - I assume the lad is in his teens . Some brokers have deals with companied that will offer a 1st time insurer a 6 month policy. So that helps a bit, they then offer renewal after 6months with a discount equivalent to one years no claims discount - ring a few local brokers they do not all have the same deals.
I would suggest you do thepolicy inhis name because if he does have an accident it affects his driving record not yours - dont forget you have to tell all your motor insurers about claims/accidents on policies in your name so there could be quite a knock on effect. Good Luck

Ok it looks like I'll have to grin and bear it then. I need the extra expense like a hole in the head. Thanks anyway .
